Grom Surfing

What We Offer: At Noosa Surfing Academy, we provide year-round surf coaching through four 10-week training blocks, scheduled during each Queensland school term. In addition to our regular training, we also run School Holiday Programs and offer personalised Private Lessons.

Our Grom Program is designed to help young surfers improve their skills, technique, and confidence in the water. With focused coaching and personalised feedback, participants learn to tackle waves more effectively, refine their style, and enjoy the full surfing experience. The program covers all key aspects of surfing, giving surfers the tools they need to reach their full potential.

ADVANCED

  • Tuesday morning 6am - 730am

Level requirement

Intermediate: Able to paddle out to the coach independently using turtle rolls or duck dives (no board ditching for safety). Can catch their own waves in small surf, pop up, and turn on a fibreglass shortboard — we’ll teach the rest! If your child is not up to this level we offer private lessons to help fast-track their progression until they’re ready to benefit from a group lesson.

Advanced: Happy surfing small to medium conditions on the open beaches. No need to shred — just be confident in the water and able to catch your own waves. Sessions are filmed and coached from land, with plenty of feedback to help you progress.

Pricing Options: all prices include tax.

10-week term: Includes 10 private group lessons with individual coaching and feedback, plus a video edit from every session.

  • Intermediate 10-week Term: $385 per squad.

  • Advanced 10-week Term: $440 per squad.

General Information

Limited: Positions are available per class. Surfers already in a squad have first choice to continue the following term. If a class is full, we’ll notify you as soon as a position becomes available.

Location: Wherever the conditions are best for each squad level. Exact location sent out via group text the night before every morning session or 1pm for 345pm classes.

What to bring: General surfing equipment. Water proof watch if you have one and a positive attitude.

Squad etiquette: We follow the World Surf League (WSL) priority system, which is widely recognised as the fairest and most respectful way to share the surf environment with one another. This system helps ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to catch waves while maintaining harmony in the water. If you ever feel unsure about how it works or have any questions regarding it, please do not hesitate to ask your coach, and we will be more than happy to explain it to you in detail.

Footage: The edited video will be shared via group text once uploaded to our Vimeo account. Typically within 24 hours. Make sure you select to watch the footage (or download it) in full 1080HD for the best viewing quality. We encourage all our surfers to take the time to review their footage carefully and to focus on the specific tips given during each class. Additionally, please feel free to share any of our surfing footage — and if you could kindly mention @noosasurfingacademy when you post, it would be greatly appreciated.

Missed Classes: Class sizes are capped to maintain a high level of tuition, so we do not offer credit for missed lessons. If you notify us at least 12 hours in advance, we’ll do our best to place you in another class if a suitable spot is available. Alternatively, you can gift your spot to a sibling or another squad member who can return the favour at a later date.

Testimonials

Bede Durbidge, Olympic Australian Surf Team Head Coach

“I have known Dean Brady (NSA Founder) for over 20 years. It’s been incredible to watch him go from having a great professional surfing career himself to now helping the next generation chase their dreams. Grass roots surfing is where all Olympians and World Champions start out and what an opportunity for Noosa to have one of their own passing on a wealth of knowledge to the local surfing community.”

Mick Fanning AO, 3x World Surfing Champion (2007, 2009, 2013)

“I’ve known Dean Brady for 25 years. He’s a big friendly giant and always a pleasure to be around. Since we first met, I’ve watched him grow into becoming one of the world’s best surfers to now a dedicated family man and businessman. Dean’s knowledge of the ocean is incredible and his patience with people makes him one of the best people to teach surfing. Dean shares and ingrains the knowledge he has gained from three plus decades of surfing Noosa and abroad into aspiring surfers as I’ve witnessed him do for Noosa Boardriders Club on many occasions along with helping myself guide some of Rip Curl’s best junior surfers in Hawaii for many years at waves like Pipeline and Sunset Beach. I highly recommend the Noosa Surfing Academy; I know Dean and his team offer a high level of tuition that is not easy to find.”
